JOIN OUR SUMMER READING PROGRAM

 

 

  1. Stoughton Young Adults in grades 6-12 can register. (Gr. 6 students can join both programs).
  2. Each participant will be given the following at the time of registration:
    · Member card
    · A Multi-Lingual “Read” Gel Bracelet
    · Schedule of events
  3. Bring in your member card when you return your books and have a staff member mark the member card for the number of books read. Each card is good for 12 books read. Ask for another card at the circulation desk when you fill one up!
  4. Participants should keep track of the title and author of the books they read.

INCENTIVES FOR SUMMER READING PROGAM

It wouldn’t be a summer reading program without incentives. Participants will receive the following incentives:

  • For every 5 books you read, you get to choose a mood pen or a drinking mug.
  • For every 10 books you read, you get to choose a glowing frisbee or a stone chip necklace.
  • For every 20 books you read, you get to choose a book pack or a cell phone/iPod/camera carry along pouch.

PROGRAMS

We have some wonderful programs planned for you. Take a break from your summer reading, join us and sign up once for:

· Hip-Hop Dance Lessons taught by Dance Force once a week on Monday from 1:00-2:00pm.
· Tap Dance Lessons taught by Lori once a week on Tuesday from 5:15-6:00pm.
· After all those great dance lessons, revitalize your mind, body and spirit with Yoga lessons every once a week on Thursday from 11:00-12:30pm

Register two weeks in advance for each:
· Crafts program with Pamela with our theme, “Going Green.” Here you will learn to make flowers, key chains etc. out of duct tape, bring your old jeans and craft them into pillows……… and many more, once a week on Wednesdays from 2:00-3:30pm.

RAFFLE & END OF SUMMER READING FINALE!

For each book read, participants will:

Fill a slip with their name, address, phone, email, title of book and author which will be put into a drawing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd raffle prizes such as an iPod shuffle, Paw Sox Tickets etc. on August 8th. (For example, if you read 5 books you would fill out 5 raffle tickets). Raffle prizewinners will be pulled before the Finale program on Friday, August 8. You do not have to be present to win. If you win we will contact you at home.

Come join us for the Finale on August 8th with the Odaiko New England Japanese Drummers. We look forward to seeing you.

Teen Advisory Board

The TAB is an organization within the library with teens as members. Volunteer to be part of this great group in September, 2008. With the help of the Young Adult Librarian, you will be the leaders and pioneers in:

  • Planning activities/programs for your fellow teens.
  • Help the Young Adult Librarian with developing the Young Adult Collection.
  • Advertising/Promoting your programs through posters, flyers and cable television.

Chess Club

Chess lovers be geared up in September. Chess Instructor will tutor every Wednesday's from 4:00pm -6:00pm.

Anime Manga Club

Love to Read Graphic Novels ?

We need volunteers to be a part of the Anime Manga Club. This club is open to all students in 6th-12th Grades. Be a part of a club where you willl:

  • Have fun with other tweens and teens who love this genre.
  • Create your own anime and manga art.
  • Watch your favorite anime.
  • Talk about and help in the selection of anime and manga titles.
  • May be even have a anime and manga costume party.

HomeWork Help Center

The Homework Center is a tutor-staffed, drop-in homework help center for Stoughton residents 12 years of age and older and is located in the library's Wales French Room. It is open every Monday during the school year from 6pm to 8pm. The Homework Center is closed during school vacation weeks. Please call the library at 781-344-2711 and ask for Sheila, Dipti or Pat if you have any questions.

A great social networking site where teens in Southeastern Massachusetts can find out what other teens in their own, and nearby communities are:

  • It's a place to find information and post information.
  • A place to do research on various topics using Reference Databases.
